Medical camp in Karamoja

Karamoja has some of the longest distances to a health facility in the country. For many households, a day spent reaching a clinic is a day of work lost, so illness is often left until it becomes serious. IDA set up a medical camp in the community, combining health education with screening and treatment for a range of conditions. Patients who needed hospital care or surgery were identified and referred rather than sent home. The referral is the part that matters most. Screening someone and leaving them with a diagnosis and nowhere to take it is not care. Every camp ends with a list of people who now know where to go next.
